Style Your Blog with Custom Themes + Patterns

This post will explain a few details about blogging with WordPress and share a few beautiful WordPress Themes.

Get up and running with Your Domain Name, Hosting + WordPress

I find WordPress to be the most user-friendly platform to create your website and blog with a wide range of design possibilities.  In order to run a blog with WordPress, you need a domain name (your website address) and a hosting server.

There are many places you can search for available domain names as well as purchase a hosting plan, a couple popular ones are and

Ways to find beautiful WordPress Themes

There are thousands of WordPress Themes to choose from, you can download beautiful, functioning themes for free.  You can also purchase custom designed themes.  WordPress alone offers over 2,500 themes, not to mention all the other freelance designers and developers offering custom designed themes.  You may want to be cautious when considering a free theme.  In some cases, it is difficult to track who the theme author and developer is. Also, be sure whomever is offering the free theme includes customer support after purchase. It is always a good idea to read the reviews.

You can search through many free themes directly from your WordPress dashboard.  Go to ‘Appearance’ > ‘Themes’ to access hundreds of designs that all function a little bit differently.

On a side note: If you have experience with html and css, you can create your own custom WordPress theme in a few easy steps.

For now,  I will show you some really nice and extremely responsibly priced themes. I found that these themes made a huge impact on how easy it became to customize my site to fit your style and brand, without having to do too much code customization.  Some of these themes are custom child themes for Genesis Framework.  The Genesis Framework empowers you to quickly and easily build incredible websites with WordPress. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced developer, Genesis provides the platform to easily customize your site. If you would like to learn more about Genesis, the paid plug-in is available at for $59.95, while writing this post in March of 2018.

One of my go-to resources for custom WordPressThemes and Patterns is Creative Market.  I’m going to share a few of my favorites below.  They offer rigorously tested themes so that the layout flows perfectly between devices, meaning your site will look flawless whether viewed from a laptop, phone or tablet. Click on the images below to view the live demos of the themes.  It is really cool to see them in action.

I love finding new patterns!

There are many pattern designs available on Creative Market as well.  I will share a few of my favorites below.  Since these patterns are seamless, you are able to use them in your header, footer or as background images for your blog posts and social media graphics.  These patterns can also be used to create apparel and design your favorite print on demand items such as shirts, journals, coffee + tea mugs, tote bags and more.

Helpful WordPress Plug-ins I use for my websites and blogs:

When I start a new blog for myself or a client, in most cases I install the following plug-ins before I do anything else.  They are all important for their own reasons.  Each of these plug-ins are available within the WordPress dashboard. I will explore each one in future blog posts.  Kindly subscribe to my email list to be notified when the details are posted.
